In the month of June I was able to learn more about steel estimating. I helped out on a few of the steel erection estimates in the last month such as the FCA Paint shop, Amazon, and the Gordie Howe Bridge to name a few. I have also had the chance to go see some of the steel erection sites. I visited the MSU Stem project up and East Lansing as well as visited the U of M Krauss project. Pat has also been showing me how he figures out the duration’s for a project and how to figure out how many pieces of equipment are required to meet the scheduled time frame. I also was able to make it out to the Milford Proving Grounds to see the shutdown work they had going on. It was cool to see them replacing a steam line especially because they had to dig into the side of the hill which made the job that much harder. So far this summer I have been able to see a whole different side of the construction process. I’m looking forward to the last month and a half of the internship to see what else I can learn.
