The final weeks of the summer internship have been extremely busy. With all of the necessary tools in my arsenal, I have able to accomplish almost every task that has been given to me. I have also been busy with site visits and other BuildU events. After the 4th of July, the crew went out to the Operators Union and had the opportunity to run excavators and an IC80 Broderson. It was a great experience to get some hands on experience with something that we get to watch in almost every construction project, but rarely get to use. Josh and I also made our way out to the GM Pontiac location to visit Sabella and Thomson. This was an interesting site to visit, unfortunately we were not allowed to walk the reroof project, but we were still able to see a lot of the other projects that involve testing. I also had the privilege to sit down with John Hautau for an executive interview. John is a Vice President of Ideal Contracting and overlooks all of the service agreements. I was able to gather a lot of information regarding John’s story and experiences, as well as, advice and some background about where Ideal Contracting is heading to in the future. Looking forward, the BuildU team is attending the ironworkers union hall and lastly we have our final presentations. This was a very beneficial summer that I really enjoyed. Thank you to everyone that made this internship experience possible!
